Simple (but delicious) French Toast

Adding a gut healthy spin to this traditional recipe by using sourdough bread!


Ingredients:

  • 1 large slice of sourdough bread

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/4 cup milk (you can use dairy or plant-based milk)

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Cooking spray for greasing the pan

  • Maple syrup, icing sugar, fresh strawberries berries, or other toppings of your choice



Instructions:

  1. In a shallow dish or bowl, whisk together the egg, milk and ground cinnamon until well combined.

  2. Heat a frying pan or griddle over medium heat. Add a small amount of cooking spray to grease the surface.

  3. Dip the large slice of sourdough bread into the egg mixture, ensuring that both sides are evenly coated. Allow the bread to soak for a few seconds to absorb the egg mixture.

  4. Place the soaked bread slice onto the preheated pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  5. Once both sides of the French toast are golden brown and cooked through, transfer it to a serving plate.

  6. Serve the French toast warm with your favorite toppings. Drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle with icing sugar, and add fresh strawberries or other fruits for extra flavor and sweetness.

  7. Enjoy your delicious sourdough French toast as a delightful breakfast or brunch treat!
