Updated: May 5, 2024

When it comes to sweet snacks, opting for options that combine fibre, protein, and healthy fats can help stabilise blood sugar levels and keep you feeling full longer. Here are some nutritious sweet snack ideas:

  1. Greek Yogurt with Berries: Spoon Greek yogurt into a bowl and top with fresh berries of choice for a simple and nutritious sweet snack.

  1. Apple Slices with Almond Butter: Slice apples and spread with nut butter for a satisfying sweet treat that's perfect for dipping.

  2. Homemade Energy Balls: In a food processor, blend oats, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and a sweetener like honey or maple syrup until combined. Roll mixture into bite-sized balls and refrigerate until firm. Full recipe here.

  3. Dark Chocolate: Break a small piece of dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) into squares for a gut loving sweet snack. Dip into nut butter or have with a handful of nuts of a fibre boost.

  4. Dates Stuffed with Nut Butter and Coated with Chocolate: Slice Medjool dates lengthwise and remove pits. Fill each date with a small amount of nut butter, then dip in melted dark chocolate. Place on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate until chocolate is set. Enjoy these decadent treats!

  5. Trail Mix: Combine nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and dark chocolate squares for a customisable and portable sweet snack.

  6. Chia Seed Pudding: Mix chia seeds with your choice of milk and sweetener, then refrigerate until thickened for a nutritious and filling snack. Full recipe here.

  7. Smoothie: Blend together your favourite fruits (such as berries, banana, mango) with Greek yogurt or kefir, a handful of spinach or kale, and a splash of almond milk or coconut water for a nutritious and delicious smoothie. Add some nut butter or seeds (chia seed, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds) for some healthy fats and fibre. Read my guide to building a healthy smoothie here.

  8. Glass of Kefir Milk: Enjoy a glass of kefir milk on its own for some gut loving benefits.
